The CSIRO’s new Low-Carb Diet rethinks healthy eating – slashing carbs and putting healthy fats back on the menu

A LOW-CARB diet that includes bread, a whopping 60 per cent of flavour-giving belly-filling good fat, and respected science practically guaranteeing weight loss, health and a whole lot less drugs in your future … It’s surely another best-seller for the CSIRO.

Over the past decade, nutritional science has “evolved”, say the scientists who have looked at the biggest picture and come up with a diet plan that manages to retain just about every beloved food yet slash the carbs and raise the almighty flavour and satisfaction factor.

The ahead-of-its-time CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet captured mass attention 12 years ago with a diet based on the science of its day, allowing about 200g of carbohydrates a day and 35 per cent of total fat.

The new CSIRO Low-Carb Diet (Pan MacMillan $34.99)released this week controversially reverses the traditional food pyramid, and the convincing science behind it may finally silence raging debate over low-carb and high-protein diets.
