Rally to help mum of three struck down by rare Guillain-Barre syndrome walk again

St Vincent de Paul Society of Victoria volunteer John Ellis, who is part of a dedicated Greensborough group helping people in need, heard about Ms Jones’ situation and sprang into action.

The society provided Ms Jones with donations before it launched a campaign called Walk With Kathy to help her get back on her feet.

“Listening to her story was quite emotional,” Mr Ellis said.

“(When) Kathy walks 10 steps by herself, I want to be there at the end of those 10 steps to give her a hug.”

St Vincent de Paul Victoria chief executive Sue Cattermole said the society wanted to make sure Ms Jones was well equipped to walk again with her head held high.

Ms Jones thanked Vinnies for supporting her when she hit “rock bottom”.

“It’s been a struggle to get through week to week, but to know that they’re there offering assistance is just incredible,” she said.
