9. Apply for a RADAR key (also called an NKS key). It’s part of the National Key Scheme which gives you access to more than 9,000 locked, public, disabled toilets in the UK. They can be in shopping centres, pubs, cafés, department stores, bus and train stations and allow you to plan your journeys better.

10. Carry a ‘Can’t Wait’ card which you can show in offices or stores and ask if you can use their toilet. It is widely acknowledged although is not guaranteed to give you access to toilets. Cards for use abroad are also available.

11. Have an emergency kit with you when you go out. Include some wet wipes, a change of underwear and nappy sacks.

12. A journal can help you manage Crohn’s and remember all the questions you have for your doctor.
