We have all experienced a night where we had trouble falling asleep. Tossing and turning…waking up every few hours. Many people struggle Insomnia on a regular basis. What is Insomnia?
Insomnia is a disease that is characterized by a poor quality of sleep. Those who have Insomnia typically experience:
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Waking up in the middle of the night and having trouble getting back to sleep
- Waking up earlier than planned, but cannot fall back to sleep
There are two forms of Insomnia, acute and chronic. Although the symptoms are the same, the causes are different.
People that have acute Insomnia typically experience these symptoms but only over a short period of time. Usually acute Insomnia lasts one night to a few weeks. Chronic Insomnia sufferers typically experience these symptoms at least three nights per week, for one month or longer.
Medication is available that can help to ease the symptoms of Insomnia, but they can be costly. For those struggling to afford Insomnia medication the expense can add to the stress they are feeling and add to their inability to rest.
