A tremor of minimal amplitude is the only consistent clinical finding seen in all patients with NT.
Tremor associated with peripheral neuropathy has the following characteristics:
- It is a kinetic or postural tremor
- It has a frequency of 3-6 Hz occurring primarily in the muscles of the upper limb, that is, the arm and hand
- Related signs and symptoms include weakness, changes in sensation over the affected region, absence of reflexes, impaired gait and equilibrium with ataxia due to impaired proprioception
- It is associated with impaired conduction velocity within the nerve fibers
